The football club was first founded in 1958 by the Coal Miners on the Prince of Wales land, and the football team was a way for the workers to relax and play the beautiful game with their colleagues.  Fast forward to October 2025, when the club proudly reopened its ground with a state of the art £1m 3G football pitch, and hugely improved off pitch facilities including  £200k of renovations to the main stand, changing rooms and other matchday amenities.

Now the football club has once again become an important part of the local community. We are home to more than 50 football teams, from our seniors mens team, male and female open age teams, to our elite academy teams and grassroots junior boys and girls, aswell as our community and disability teams.  It is no surprise that our motto is #FootballForAll and we demonstrate this every day.

Over the last few years the Colls have worked hard to improve its community engagement and output and work closely with our local community to make Pontefract a better place for all through a number of initiatives, including hosting AndysManClub, running the Pontefract Collieries Food Hub, offering free 'Happy Holidays' clubs for local kids to name a few.

We don't stop there however, we are in the latter stages of working with Wakefield District council to build and operate a community centre located at the rear of the famous 'Shed End' stand and our plans to deliver a horticulture centre replacing wasteland at the back of the Skinner Lane stand are taking shape, with a view to using this to educate young people on how to grow and cook food at home.
